Best Bullet Journal Supplies For Beginners
While bullet journal supplies aren't everything in your planning journey, they can certainly be a lot of fun! The truth is, you only need a notebook and a pencil to start one. For any beginner or advanced planner this can be more than sufficient.
I'm somewhat of a stationery addict, so I'm always in the search for the best supplies and materials. From everything that I've tried, I've compiled and curated a list for all of you who are starting your bullet journal or if you are in need of some inspiration.
The Perfect Journal
If you're looking to invest into your bullet journal for the first time, I suggest you start here. For me, it's important that my notebook can last me throughout the entire year. For this purpose a hard cover notebook can be best. The other thing you should look into is the quality of the paper itself. If you're going to do a lot of drawing or painting in your notebook, you don't want it to bleed into other pages. You can choose any style but I prefer a simple dotted notebook.
The Leuchtturm journal has numbered pages which makes it super easy to find what you are looking for.
The journal has a built in index, which eliminates the need to make your own.
Unlike some of the other journals, this one has two separate ribbons, making it easy to switch between pages.
The paper feels silky and is of excellent quality.
Unlike the Leuchtturm, these noteooks are widely available online and in nearly every stationery store.
The smell of a new Moleskine notebook is truly special and full of nostalgia.
The Perfect Pen
Your notebook being the fundamental resource for your bullet journal doesn't prevent you from having a little fun. When you first discover what a good pencil feels like you will never go back. In this section I will mention different pencils, pens, fineliners, and mildliners. They are what makes your bullet journal colorful or excitingly minimal in just black and white.
Very smooth and skip free writing. One of my top favorite pens.
There are plenty sizes to choose from which makes this set a very good choice for beginners.
Drawing and writing
The Pigma Micron is an excellent drawing pen, you are not limited to writing only.
I have spent many hours writing with this pen. After trying others it still remains the most comfortable because of its ergonomic shape.
Waterproof on paper
This pen dries quickly so you don't have to worry about smudging if this is a problem for you!
Because of its shape, you will be able to write out of your bullet journal too. Great for taking notes in class.
This three pack is very affordable which makes it an ideal starter for your stationery collection.
These highlighter do not scream neon. They come in many pastel colors.
Zebra makes some excellent markers in general. They last a very long time.
Notebooks and pencils are certainly enough for you to develop your bullet journal habit. However, there are many useful resources and tools to make your planning even more exciting. This section includes items you have probably seen before or used at school. They are not necessary in any way, but they are worth looking into.
Set of 10
This is a great set for any beginner just starting out their collection.
These are very easy to peel and put back on, so you don't have to worry about making a mistake.
good color selection
If this is your first time buying washi tape, this set has ideal colors.
easy to use
I find that stencils are a great way to get started in your bullet journal.
If you are not a big artsy person but would love to have a decorated journal, this is the way to go!
It's hard to make a mistake using stencils and they will give your journal a consistent style.
The Perfect Book
For me this section is key to developing good organisation and planning habits. When I first got started these amazing books inspired me and changed how I see my life and how I lead it. They gave me my “why”. This is my go-to list for anyone interested in planning and optimizing all aspects of their life.
This book is by the creator of the bullet journal method. I strongly recommend it. It gives you insight into this organizational system which allows you to further adapt it to your needs.
