I am here to tell you that, YES, you can definitely do it with the right mindset! When I was struggling with this same issue it was very hard to find a good article on this topic. Don't Make Resolutions

This brings me to one of the biggest problems with the start of the new year. Everyone is making useless resolutions that are too broad and too vague. Don't make resolutions - create goals for yourself. Write down what you want to achieve and then write down exactly how you're going to do it. When I'm planning for the new year, I make sure to plan by quarters. This way it will be much easier to create tasks for each goal, which makes it easy for you to track your progress and know exactly what you need to do.

Create a Workout Schedule

Whether you are a beginner or not, having a clear workout plan is essential to your success. If you are going to the gym without knowing exactly what you are going to do, you are setting yourself up for failure. Set up a workout schedule and plan on your computer, phone, or planner. Bring the written exercises with you to the gym. If you are suffering from anxiety or gym intimidation, this will help you a out lot. Look up the exercises before the scheduled workout. This way you will know how to use the equipment in advance, in turn giving you a needed boost of confidence.

Make It Easy

Don't make it harder for you to get to the gym - make it easy. The truth is that you will almost never "feel" like working out. The good news is that you don't need to feel like it to do it. Most of the pain associated with a fitness regimen is what beginners experience in the first couple of weeks working out. After a while it becomes enjoyable because you know how exercise will make you feel after you are done. In order to make it easy to get to the gym, prepare your clothes the night before and leave your bag next to the door. After all, if you have gone through the trouble of picking out your clothes, why shouldn't you go to the gym? This simple trick gets me out of the house every day.

Be Realistic

If this is your first time working out, we can probably agree that it's highly unlikely that you will all of the sudden start working out every day. It's very important to pick the form of exercise you enjoy so that you are not suffering. This is not a diet and you are not temporarily working out. Pick something that you are more likely to stick to because this is a lifestyle. This is why you need to do this for yourself, don't do it for anyone else. If you are doing it for you, your chances of succeeding are much better.

Motivation

Working out for better looks is a great reason for getting started. However, after a while you will realize that your reasons have change. It is very beneficial to implement some form of exercise into your morning routine. Working out in the early hours of the day gets it out of the way and provides you with a great sense of accomplishment. It feels great to know that you are out there working while your competition is still in bed. All life long learners will appreciate the clarity benefits of a regular workout routine.
